IS or BIS is the abbreviation for Bureau of Indian Standards which is the standardization body of India which is under direct control of the Ministry of Consumers Affairs of Indian Government. The major role of this organization is t formulate, recognize, enforce and promote the Indian Standards for various fields and industries. Apart from technical and industrial standards, BIS is also involved in formulation of standards related economy and other fields too. For testing the product samples for certification, BIS has a large network of eight Laboratories that conduct test on the test samples from various fields ranging from food, to chemicals, mechanical, And automobile.
