Presto Stantest manufactures premium quality of MFI tester. The lab testing machine works on the basis of melt flow index formula to calculate the MFI of the plastic granules. The instrument is used to measure the viscosity or flow rate of the plastic resins. The device is used to inspect the flow properties of melted resins. The MFI of thermoplastics, resins, granules is the rate of flow of plastics in gram per ten minutes that flow out from a jet of appropriate diameter and length. The test is carried out under some standard conditions of load, piston, and temperature in a cylindrical cavity inside a heated metallic barrel. The testing machine is designed according to the standards norms and testing methods provided by various standardization authorities like ASTM, ISO, etc. Presto Stantest two models to calculate MFI using Melt Flow Index Formula Tester:
Presto's MFI is designed with a microprocessor based PID controller that helps to set the range of the temperature easily from ambient to 400oC. It has a resolution of 0.1°C and offers the accuracy of ± 0.1°C. The testing instrument is fitted with a digital presettable timer with a maximum range up to 59 min. & 59 sec. along with the buzzer on completion of the task. The testing machine also offers the facility of automatic sample cutter that ensures smooth and error-free operations. Also, the instrument is delivered to the customers along with some standard accessories such as orifice, spoon, piston, plumb line, spanner, material changer, tweezers, mirror, sample cutter, orifice cleaner, accessory stand and many more.
To operate the machine, take the weight of the granules and pour them into metallic barrel inside the cylindrical vessel. Now introduce the piston so that it can cause extrusion of molten polymer. Now set the temperatures of the device to heat the granules at a particular temperature. Now introduce a specific weight in the piston after heating the granules. It will let the melted plastic flow out of the cylindrical vessel. Now weigh the melted specimen which comes out in a period of 10 minutes. The Melt Flow Index is expressed in grams of the melted polymers in ten minutes.
Melt Flow Index Formula
Melt Flow Index (In Grams) = Weight of Melted Specimen in Ten Minutes
