The PSA or pressure-sensitive tapes is one of the crucial materials used in the packaging industry that will not require any activation of heat, solvent, or water and is firmly adhered to the majority of similar materials. This easy-to-use adhesive material will form quick bond formation and is lightweight as compared to other mechanical fasteners. Whenever you make use of these tapes, then you need to check their adhesive strength. This can be done with the help of a Presto peel strength tester. This lab testing equipment is useful in quantifying the permanence of adhesion or peel ability of pressure-sensitive materials. Here in this blog, we are going to discuss how you can easily measure the peel strength of PSA tapes. But before that, we will discuss more on Presto peel adhesion bond tester and how it serves to be useful in the packaging industry. So, let us get started!
How peel strength tester is helpful to enhance your packaging?
We all know that packaging is a huge industry that has been serving many industries on a large scale. The packaging of the product will solely be dependent on the durability as well as strength of the packages being delivered. Therefore, taking several quality tests like
loop tack test, roll peel test, bond strength test, etc. will help manufacturers to assure about the quality of materials being delivered to their customers. Thus,
Peel Adhesion/ Seal /Bond Strength Tester from Presto Testing Instruments has been designed for the purpose of studying the adhesion properties of various self-adhesive materials.
This lab testing instrument is used to create high forces that will be further used for testing and analyzing purposes. It consists of a limit switch which will act as a safety feature for the machine and limits the movement of the grips of the machine. The outer body of the machine is duly fabricated with mild steel which is duly powder coated.
By using this
lab testing equipment, you can easily assure the
quality of adhesives and get confidence about delivering the right product to your customers. If you conduct the peel strength test at a fast speed then it can damage the adhesive with high peel force due to its elongation. A slow peel strength test will damage the adhesives with relatively low peel forces. Therefore, you can easily make use of the Presto
Peel adhesion bond tester to make sure that materials like flexible packaging films, plastic films, tapes, etc. can easily be tested for adhesion properties.
Below we have listed the features and technical specifications of this lab testing equipment.

With these features and technical specifications, it will be easy for you to
evaluate the peel ability of adhesive materials with ease. Now, let us discuss how you can easily measure the peel strength of adhesive materials by using the Presto peel strength tester.
Steps to measure the peel strength of adhesives
Peel strength tester from Presto testing instruments is one of the highly recommendable testing equipment that can be used in the packaging industry to carry out 180-degree peel tests, 90 Degree Peel tests of the materials like PSA tapes, BOP tapes, and many others. Below we have listed the steps to perform the peel test of adhesives and measure their peel strength.
- Start this testing machine by plugging it into a 5 amp, 220 Volts AC. When the machine will be turned ON then you can place the specimen accurately on the upper fixed grips and tighten the grip firmly.
- Now, you can bring the lower movable grip upwards so that the specimen can easily reach the grips.
- You must ensure that the lower limit switch ring should be placed in a position that will keep a minimum distance of 25 mm.
- Now place the lower end of the specimen between the lower grips and tighten the grip firmly.
- Make sure that the specimen is placed in the center of the grips.
- Now press RESET and TARE to set the value at the peak load indicator to zero.
- After setting the zero on the load indicator, turn the rotary switch to the down direction.
- This will move the lower grip in a lower direction. On the movement of the lower grip in the lower direction, there will be an increase in the values shown on the load indicator.
- Now turn the rotary switch to the off position after the specimen has been peeled off. Once the machine stops, the display showing load will return to zero and the green display will freeze.
- Press the Memory switch on the load indicator to show the peak value. Note down the values displayed on the load indicator.
In this way, you can easily commence the peel strength test and make sure that you deliver accurate results to the customers. If you need any more assistance regarding the use of this
