In Paint & Plating industries, the Paint adhesion test is the most common and widely used test procedure that helps to determine whether the paint or coating of the material adheres to the substrate to which they are applied or to test the adhesion strength of the coating to substrate. This is performed using a test procedure known as Cross Hatch test.
Cross Hatch test also known as the cross-cut test is a method which is used to determine the resistance of the coated materials to separation by utilizing a cross hatch cutting tool known as Cross Hatch tester. The tool helps to cut a right angle lattice pattern onto the coating and penetrates the substrates from all the directions. A very quick pass/fail test can be accomplished through this method. On the other hand, if it is required to test a multi-coated pattern, some test methods need to be followed as prescribed by ASTM standard.
There are two test methods that are suggested by ASTM international standard organization:
Presto Stantest offers high-quality of cutting tool i.e. Cross Hatch Cutter that helps to determine the adhesion resistances strength of coating to separation. The instrument comprises of 2 or 3 blades. The instrument is quite easy to operate. The size of the blades can be chosen as per the coating thickness on the material. The instrument is designed for the observation of skilled professionals as per the standards ASTM D 3359, DIN EN 2409: 2013-6, BS EN 2409: 2013, ISO 2409: 2013.
